R46 | Rheumatism of forearms and hands
Indications
Rheumatism and gout of the fore-arms and hands, with swelling of the articulations. In acute cases, numbness and swelling characteristic of arthritis deformans.
Frequently the pain characteristic of rheumatism worsen with a change of weather or with humidity. R46 may also be useful with other rheumatic aches which worsen in damp weather such as: sciatica, rheumatism of the knees and shoulders, pains in the sacral region, inflammation of the hip joint, intercostal neuralgia, and rheumatism of the occipital musculature.

Mode of action
R46 may also be used in pyretic infections which worsen or are caused by humidity.
Ferrum phosphoricum: Intense heat and inflammation of the affected part. Positively influences secondary anemia which frequently accompanies rheumatism and arthritis deformans.
Lithium carbonicum: Chronic rheumatism connected with heart lesions and asthenopia offer a field for this remedy. Rheumatic nodes. Whole body is sore.
Natrium sulfuricum: Arthritis of the spine; sciatica; arthritis of the left hip; general aggravation by damp or warm, humid weather.
Nux vomica: Rheumatic pains of the upper limbs with the sensation of weakness; numbness of the forearms and hands, especially in the morning; paralytic weakness of the upper limbs.
Rhododendron: Chronic rheumatism of the joints; pains are aggravated in the morning, by change of weather, before a storm, or by barometric changes; pains are made better by motion and the application of heat.
Spiraea ulmaria: Wandering rheumatic pain, which localizes in the articulations of the elbows; epicondylitis.
Remedies to be considered
- Pains extending from the tonsils, or articular inflammations following angina: R1, BC-10
- Pyretic infections or the onset of influenza after becoming wet: R6
- Rheumatic constitutions: R11, BC-19
- Migraine and neuralgia (originating from the sacral region and radiating upwards): R16, BC-12
- Intercostal neuralgia: R24
- Sacroiliac complaints of women, with pains extending along the vertebral column: R50
- Topical applications for rheumatism: R61, R30
It is advisable to only use R46 initially (especially when the pains are localized to the articulations of upper limbs), before administering any additional comple-mentary remedies.
