GOLDENROD (Solidago canadensis) - Family: Asteraceae Among its major properties, goldenrod is diuretic, antiuric, antioxidant, astringent, antiseptic, antispasmodic and tonic. It is the most used of all the kidney ailments plant in herbal medicine. It can be useful both for light water retention as well as nephritis. It does wonders for cystitis, urethritis, uremia and renal stones.

NETTLE (Urtica dioica) - Family: Urticaceae Nettle is traditionally used in herbal medicine as a mild diuretic. Nettle helps eliminate urea, uric acid and chlorides, it is anti-gout and anti-arthritic. It is rich in nutrients; it contains vitamins A, C and minerals; calcium, potassium, silica and iron. Its intake prevents mineral loss when taking diuretics "Potassium-sparing ". It is a non-irritating diuretic used for minor infections of the bladder or kidney accompanied by back pain.

MEADOWSWEET (Filipendula ulmaria) - Family: Rasaceae Meadowsweet is traditionally used as an antiseptic plant and as a mild "non-irritating" diuretic to treat cystitis, urinary stones and gout. One component of meadowsweet among its phenolic glycosides, is spiraine (a derivative of salicylate. The molecule of salicylic acid was isolated from meadowsweet, hence its name (Aspirin / Spirae, its old name). Meadowsweet is antipyretic; it helps to relieve fever during an infection such as cystitis. The polyphenols (tannins) that it contains help fight bacterial infections.

GROUND IVY (Glechoma hederacea) - Family: Lamiaceae Ground ivy is a plant known to tone the entire urinary system. Its antiseptic, emollient and mild "non- irritanting" diuretic properties make this a plant to give for any given bladder condition.

YARROW (Achillea millefolium) - Family: Asteraceae Yarrow is used in traditional Western herbalism as a urinary antiseptic and antipyretic. It relieves fever during infection, such as cystitis. It would be even more effective when used fresh. Analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic for the smooth muscle of the bladder wall, it will relieve the spasms of the bladder during cystitis. The achilleine that it contains makes it hemostatic, it helps to reduce bleeding during urinary tract infection.

MARSHMALLOW (Althaea officinalis) - Family: Malvaceae Rich in mucilage, it is a very emollient plant that relieves irritation of the urinary mucosa during cystitis with or without bloody urine. Marshmallow is known for its emollient and diuretic properties, it is traditionally used for cystitis, urethritis and urinary stones. It prevents or relieves irritation of the mucous membranes of the bladder during cystitis.

JUNIPER (Juniperus communis) - Family: Cuprassecea Tonic, diuretic, urinary tract antiseptic. Juniper berries facilitate drainage of the urinary tract, act as a kidney tonic, diuretic and are an especially powerful antiseptic of the whole urinary tract, but must be avoided in renal failure.
