R42 | Venous stasis, varicosis, inflammation of the veins
Indications
Venous stasis, varicosis, and varicose ailments; varicose eczema; inflammation of the veins; constriction of the veins in the lower limbs causing a sensation of heaviness and progressive dermatitis and pruritus.
Mode of action
R42's general mechanism of action of is directed towards the symptomatic relief of venous stasis; this includes the associated formation of varices and its sequela, elephantiasis, and edema of the lower thigh.
Aesculus: Specific remedy for venous dilatation, venous stasis, and generalized venous congestion; venous distension or varices of the rectum, throat, esophagus, eyes, etc.
Belladonna: Intense local or general vascular congestion; local congestion causes symptoms of inflammation, reddening, pain, heat, etc.; localized rash caused by congestion.
Calcium fluoratum: Indicated in conditions causing weakening of the supporting tissues; varices, vascular tumours; varicose eczema; hypertension.
Carduus marianus: Drainage remedy relieving vascular and hepatic congestion; venous stasis due to portal congestion, giving rise to varices of the esophagus, lower extremities etc.; varicosities, varicose ulcers of the extremities.
Hamamelis: Weakness of the veins, varicosities, and passive hemorrhage; sore, bruised sensation in affected area. Epistaxis; esophageal varices; hemorrhoids; varicocele; phlebitis with or without thrombosis; varicose ulcers.
Mezereum: Effective for eczema and other skin conditions; skin lesions are cracking, crusting and there is suppuration; anxiety.
Placenta totalis suis: Disorders of peripheral circulation; chilblains; Buerger's disease; eczema and ulceration of the legs.
Pulsatilla: Congestion and stasis; varicose veins, venous dilation in the limbs which cause shooting venous pain; varicose ulceration; erythrocyanosis.
Secale cornutum: Primarily acts on the circulation; passive hemorrhages; claudication; varicosities with burning pains, worse heat, better cold; general burning and the sensation of heat.
Vipera berus: Feeling of heaviness in the legs, as common in the case of venous inflammation and stasis; ulcers of the lower legs, hemorrhages.

Clinical experience
- Typically administered as a chronic remedy.
- Hemorrhoids, acne rosacea, heavy legs during heat, during pregnancy.
- Expect 1 month of treatment for each year of ailment.
- Aching pain, consider R80 as a pain relieving massage oil.
