Temporarily relieves aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with backache, lumbago, muscle contusion, strains and sprains (involving muscles, tendons and/or ligaments), and arthritis pain.

Bio-Gesic is a unique topical formula for the relief of pain and arthritic symptoms. This formula has a heating and cooling effect on the local area, helping increase blood flow allowing for a quicker response. The dual action provides deep penetrating heat to the sore, achy muscles and joints, and then a cooling effect to promote pain relief.

Muscle contusion, Arthritis pain, Injuries and trauma, Bursitis, Tendonitis, Carpel tunnel syndrome, Tired muscles, Sore muscles, Strains, Sprains Menthol (l-Menthol), Methyl salicylate (Methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate), Eucalyptol (1,8 cineole), vanillyl butyl ether (VBE), astaxanthin | NPN 80042387

Within minutes, it helps relieve muscle and joint pain associated with:

Backache | Lumbago | Muscle contusion | Arthritis pain

Injuries and trauma | Bursitis | Tendonitis

Carpel tunnel syndrome | Tired & sore muscles | Strains & sprains

Bio-Gesic can be used before and after exercise, sports or any physical activity. This formula has specific ingredients to promote quicker absorption of the active ingredients directly to the target site. The most important of these are the astaxanthin and lecithin, which provide phospholipid carriers to penetrate the skin and allow for infiltration into the cell membranes. The use of Aloe, Shea butter and Cocoa butter also assists in nutrient absorption, as well as skin healing and preventing any skin irritations that could occur from the potent and quick acting active ingredients.

The rapid absorption leaves no oily or greasy feeling on the skin either. Its active ingredient is Vanillyl butyl ether (VBE) 0.5%, which is a heating agent that improves circulation to loosen up tight muscles and reduce stiffness in any joint. The menthol provides a cooling response to ease pain quickly while the Methyl salicylate helps to soothe muscle aches, along with the MSM and Glucosamine, which provide anti-inflammatory and rebuilding nutrients being applied directly to the target site.

Vanillyl butyl ether (VBE) provides a warming sensation on the local area, which then causes a physiological vasodilation mechanism. Unlike Capsicum, which can cause skin irritation, burning and itching symptoms, VBE is milder but still has the same clinical effect. It contains vanillyl groups that bind to and are activated only when it interacts with the vanillyl receptor in skin, to set off action potentials, with the end result being a local vasodilation. VBE is oil soluble and its absorption and stability is enhanced if mixed with an emulsifier, like lecithin.

Lecithin, derived from soy, provides a source of phospholipids, which act as emulsifiers for the fat soluble ingredients in the formula. The effectiveness of a topical formula is based in its penetration through the skin barrier. The phospholipids help to bind and protect the component and transport it through the cell membrane, due to their ability to mix into water and oil components.

Astaxanthins are naturally derived antioxidants which have a dual role. The first role is to provide phospholipids that help to carry nutrients through the cell membrane, to get delivery to the target site. The second role of Astaxanthins is in the reduction of chronic inflammation. Because Astaxanthins are potent antioxidants and also have the ability to work right at the cell membrane, they can remove inflammatory toxins from the cells.

Menthol has a natural analgesic (pain reliever) attribute when used topically. As the lotion is applied, molecules called ligands (signal triggering molecules which bind to a site on a target protein) attach themselves to receptors in your cells, initiating a change. Menthol has ligands, which attach to the kappa Opioid receptors in the body, and thus produce a numbing effect at the applied site. It also causes a vasodilation of the blood vessels to increase blood flow to the area and reduce the skin barrier function. This process allows for other medicinal ingredients to work faster, all the while bringing nutrients for cellular repair as well as removing metabolic waste. Menthol brings about a cooling sensation by stimulating thermo-receptors in the skin cells which sends a signal to the brain, interpreting it as a cold sensation, relieving the uncomfortable heat of inflammation (like the ice effect).

Methyl salicylate, generally known as oil of wintergreen, is an aspirin-type ingredient used topically to relieve pain. It can provide temporary relief from minor aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with simple backache, arthritis, strains, bruises and sprains. Note: Methyl salicylate should not be applied to wounds or damaged skin, and avoid contact with eyes.

Aloe vera is well known for its topical use in skin related conditions and internal use for mucous membrane repair. The physical response to pain is to produce transmitters like bradykinin, Aloe contains carboxy-peptidase and salicylate components, which help to inhibit the transmitter. Histamine, another transmitter, is inhibited by the magnesium lactate component in Aloe, while the component C-glucosyl chromone reduces topical inflammation. With its anti-inflammatory action it naturally encourages blood flow which helps to nourish and oxygenate the blood and to feed the nerves. It also aids in the inhibition of a potent vasoconstrictor thromboxane A2, increasing microcirculation thus preventing ischemia in the wound area, allowing for the speedy healing of burns.

Eucalyptus has long been used for inflammation of respiratory tract mucous membranes but it can also help with rheumatic pains. The essential oil of Eucalyptus contains 40-85 percent eucalyptol, which when applied topically works as a mild counterirritant to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. Similar to menthol, eucalyptus initially cools, and then heats the area where it is applied, and the alternating sensations help to flush the pain away. It can be used for pain relief in such conditions as arthritis, knee pain, back pain and joint pain.

Note: Its oral use is contraindicated, if ingested it can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
